Thanksgiving and Black Friday Eve

Happy Thanksgiving to all my family and friends. Yes I am American!  It seems lately I haven't been able to celebrate US Thanksgiving much. I always seem to be working at that time.  I love Thanksgiving. It's one of my favorite holidays! Canada celebrates Thanksgiving, but it's just not the same.  I spent the day working- yet again. No turkey for me! :(

I hope everyone had a great one!!

Today we are supposed to give thanks for all the good things we have in life. I won't get all sloppy & sentimental, but I would like to thank all my family, friends, and clients for all their support over this past year.

Check out Sam & Dave working it to "I Thank You"  I know- the only thing this song has in common with Thanksgiving is the word "thanks".  However it is about expressing gratitude, and it's a great old song, and I like it. And it's my blog so I'll post whatever  I want !!

Tomorrow is Black Friday and the sale in my 2 shops has begun. I am offering free shipping in the USA & Canada now until Cyber Monday.

The End of Summer

Summer is officially over. And it was a great one weather wise.

I love the fall. The cool crisp mornings and the beautiful color change in the leaves are just some of the things I like about this season. And my birthday is only one month away!

I've turned "Pro"!!!

Yes, I am proud to admit I have turned "Pro" on Artfire.  What exactly do I mean by that? Artfire has been offering a great deal on account upgrades and I decided to take advantage of it.

Here is the link to my Artfire shop:
I will continue to sell on ETSY, but wanted to open another shop for more exposure.

You don't have to join Artfire to buy things. Kind of makes things easier don't you think? We'll see how it goes.

I will be posting new listings this weekend!

Since I have decided to go Pro- I thought this video was kind of appropriate!!  Not funny you say? Well it's all I got right now...

Sometimes a girl just needs a Stud!!!

I have had more than a few requests for post and back earrings, as not everyone likes dangles. Me? I love them. The longer and more elaborate the better! But sometimes wearing dangles just isn't practical.

Post and back earrings are also referred to as studs. At least that's what I call them.

You asked for studs...and I am bringing you studs!!!

Beautiful Tiger Eye wrapped with sterling silver

What?? Were you thinking more along the lines of this...?????

Sorry, but I don't provide THAT kind of customer service!!! Ha!!

These beautiful earrings are made from opalite briolettes and wrapped with 14k gf wire.

These also sold to the same client!!!

These beauties are made from opalite and swarovski crystals. I wrapped the opalite with sterling silver wire in my chaos pattern.  This is the second time I have sold this style of earring!! I know I'll be making them again!

My other news is that I have created a beautiful ETSY treasury combined of all Canadian sellers.  Take a peek!

Well it's Labor day weekend. The weather has turned cool and it seems like it's October not the beginning of September.

I am attempting to prepare for my classes next week and I am procrastinating with a capital P.  I only have a few days left before I start teaching and I have no motivation to do anything.

My dining room table looks like I am busy. My books are open, my powerpoint is up, and  ready to be revised...

I even have my TA's helping me out!

But I haven't done squat. I am surfing the web, twittering and facebooking instead. Oh, and writing this blog entry too! Anything to get out of reading about pregnancy induced hypertension.

Good old Wikipedia defines procrastination as...."the counterproductive deferment of actions or tasks to a later time.....While it is regarded as normal for people to procrastinate to some degree, it becomes a problem when it impedes normal functioning. "

OK- I knew that.  Read further...

"Chronic procrastination may be a sign of an underlying psychological disorder..... "the psychological causes of procrastination vary greatly, but generally surround issues of anxiety, low sense of self-worth, and a self-defeating mentality."

YIKES!!!!!   And here I thought I was just being a lazy slug. When in fact I might be a lazy slug with a deeper problem.

Okay. So I don't procrastinate all the time. Most people don't.  I did a bit more searching on the web (more procrastination) and found that maybe I am an "incubator" and not a procrastinator.

What's an incubator?  Well it's not this......

or this..........

According  to an article by Dr.Robert Biswas-Diener.... "Procrastinators may have a habit of putting off important work. They may not ever get to projects or leave projects half finished. Importantly, when they do complete projects, the quality might be mediocre as a result of their lack of engagement or inability to work well under pressure.  Incubators were (those).....who had superior-quality work but who also worked at the last moment, under pressure, motivated by a looming deadline. "
Incubation + Pressure= Superior work

So the next time someone calls you a worthless, lazy, goldbricking, procrastinating slob, you can say "au contraire."
Tell them you are a worthless, lazy, goldbricking, incubating slob!

Telling someone you are incubating is much more impressive than saying you are procrastinating.
Check out these flashdancers dancing to Joy Division's "Incubation."

Have a great weekend!

Florida, Toilet Paper & Jewellery

I was in Florida a few weeks ago visiting my family. It was not a great trip, for several reasons, one of them being that my friend Pat passed away while I was down there.
While staying at my Mom's, it was hard not to notice this sitting on top of her toilet.

This roll of toilet paper is wrapped in lace sitting on a blue plastic lace- edged clam shell. I didn't get a shot of the top of this train wreck, but it is embellished with flowers and fake pearls.

I don't know if I had way too much time on my hands, or if I was trying to distract my way out of my grief.  Who knows. But I started thinking ..why do people dress up their toilet paper? It's just a plain white roll of paper.  Everyone uses it. We take it for granted, except when it's in short supply.

But do some people actually find it offensive, and feel the need  to cover it up?

Or do others look at it and think.."My god, the things I could do with this...."
Out of curiousity I did a search on ETSY to see if anyone made toilet paper covers and there were 89 listings.  I did a Google images search and  I hit the proverbial motherlode! Page after page of toilet paper covers. Here are some of my favorites!

But before you start wasting even more of your time then you already have, by reading this blog, click on the video to listen to some music while you're deciding on which one you want to give as a present when you're playing Secret Santa!

This video has nothing to do with toilet paper, clam shells, fake lace or Florida. Be patient. We are getting to the Florida part soon. And the jewellery.

I just like the song!!!

Train - Hey, Soul Sister (Official Music Video). Watch more top selected videos about: Trains

Here is one for all you Star Wars lovers. This one is from Japan.

Something for you cat lovers.....

How cute is that!!!

One for every holiday!!!

This one cracks me up. A skunk protecting your toilet paper....

This one is kind of  creepy...

This one looks like a corset!!!

Have you seen enough? Yeah, me too.

So we had a chance to visit the beach more than once.  It was very hot and humid. What a surprise- hot and humid in Florida during August.

Here is a picture of one of my favorite restaurants- Breakers right on the beach...

Great food and cold beer!! Here is a view of the beach from the front porch of Breakers.

Now this is odd. Or at least I think it is. We went out to dinner one night and ordered caesar salad and this came with it....

A cinnamon roll loaded with frosting sitting next to the salad. Is this some new dining trend I know nothing about? If you have seen this before I'd appreciate a comment. I'm not going to get into the calorie count right now, or the esthetics of it all.

Ok. I saved the best for last. Here are some pics of my latest listings. I call them woven. I have created hoops out of 14k gf wire and woven gold wire and stones around the hoops. I think they look spectacular!
This one is gold and sunstone...

These are made with gold and natural emeralds..

 Hope you like the earrings!!
